Working in the County Public Health Department prepared me to serve effectively in city government because it taught me to see how every policy decision shows up in people’s daily lives. I saw firsthand how choices about housing, transportation, parks, and public safety translate into real outcomes—like who can walk safely to school, who breathes clean air, and who has access to care and support.
At the county, I learned how to work within complex systems, budgets, and regulations, and still keep my focus on the community. I had to bring together different departments, outside partners, and residents to solve problems that no single agency could fix alone. That is exactly the kind of collaboration a city councilmember needs to move from complaints to concrete solutions.
My public health work also shaped the questions I ask when decisions are on the table: Who benefits? Who is left out? What are the long‑term consequences for families, seniors, and young people? On the council, I would bring that same lens—looking not just at the immediate costs, but at how our choices will affect safety, health, and opportunity in Morgan Hill for years to come.
